Definitions

there are two types of meetings with prospective clients. In the first, called a survey meeting, you must find out what is needed and wanted. Your purpose with a survey meeting is to find out what is needed and wanted, and to let the prospective client know that you can provide it. You don't tell him how you will provide it, you only let him know you will provide it, with a full proposal to be presented to him soon. (BPL 24 Jan 73 I)
