Sometimes an emergency exists which requires an enormous traffic volume and this has communicators slaving all up and down the lines. When a line or number of lines are to be cleared of an emergency situation which has ceased to exist, the Chief Communicator is informed by the deciding executive and all messages appertaining to the past situation are swept back to files whether they have been acknowledged or completed or not. (HTLTAE, p. 118)
