Definitions

in securing ship one is seeing to it that for several days the ship can be safely left with only a small guard or watchman. This includes seeing to readiness of boats, shutting off fuel, putting away instruments and valuables under lock, discarding provisions that will spoil, closing ports against rain, etc. When complete the ship can be considered secure from flooding, fire and theft and damage to her gear if left.
