Definitions

an approximate unit of work consisting of the work done by one man in one hour. Each industry has a basic idea of how much work a man can do in one hour within a segment of that particular industry. Thus man-hours is useful in calculating how long it will take to complete a contract or fill an order, how much it will cost to produce something or how much wages will be, etc. It is only an approximate unit however.
